“Fan”: Inktober Day #7: Writer Edition
I’m using Inktober prompts to generate daily writing
I’m always jealous of my visual artist friends, especially my sister, when Inktober rolls around. Then this year I realized that even though I don’t draw, I do write, and it might be fun to take the same prompts and see what twenty minutes of writing on the given topic elicits. So I thought I’d just play and see where things take me (knowing that a lot of what I write will be dreck), and maybe you’d like to join too. Here are this year’s prompts.
She got her hair up and her makeup on, she pulled on the tights and fixed a run with clear nail polish, she managed to zip the dress up herself, by leaning like a scratching bear against the doorframe and wedging one arm up in place, she wiped off the armpit sweat with a wad of toilet paper and reapplied the deodorant, then popped the deoderant and lipstick in her bag, and brushed her teeth (again), and checked for spinach (again), and finally, her alarm went off and it was time to go.
When she walked into the bookstore it was as empty in the front row as she had hoped. The event wouldn’t start for another hour, and she had timed things, from previous such events, to know that the girl running things liked to set up the chairs early, not minding if it took up the bulk of the fiction section, but…
